It's not a popular statement, and not what the advertisers of health foods and diet programmes would have us believe, but physical fitness cannot be purchased! And it definitely can't be wished into existance.

Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase

It takes time, focus and dedication to get fit - but it's worth it! More and more of us are living sedentary lives. We're spending increasing amounts of time infront of screens - at work and at leisure. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a bit of screen time, but it's hardly going to yield physical health!

Of course, February's a grim time to be exercising outdoors. But perhaps that's one of the reasons why Pilates has become so popular - it takes little equipment and can be practiced in the home.

Today's the beginning of Lent. Many will be giving something up for a few weeks, often with the purpose of losing a few pounds. How about you start something instead? A new fitness routine! It doesn't have to be much - a few minutes a day is enough to make a big impact. Or if you'd prefer, a smaller number of longer workouts spread throughout the week.

Why not join a Pilates class near you? Or what about joining your local Park Run (or undertaking the Couch to 5KM programme if you're a real beginner).
